We get this question a lot. You can still use that pedestal, but you’ll need to use a 30-to-50 adapter or “dog bone” to plug into the pedestal first. This also goes for anyone in a 30-amp RV that gets placed at a 50-amp pedestal, except they need a 50-to-30 adapter. To plug in with an adapter, plug the adapter into the pedestal first, then plug the Surge Guard unit into the adapter, and finally plug in your RV power cord. Again, do all of this before turning power on at the pedestal.
Yes, you can use the Surge Guard with a generator. If you are connected to a generator, your Surge Guard may display the “OPEN GROUND” fault. This is because your generator has a floating neutral, which the Surge Guard sees as an open neutral. To correct this, all you need is the Generator Bonding Plug available at TechnoRV. Simply plug it into one of the outlets on your generator and the issue should resolve itself.
While this is not the norm, we have seen some oversized plug heads that hit the plug cover on the Surge Guard. This is not a problem as the cover can be removed. Simply unscrew the plug cover from the unit, then cover the hole with the included piece that is inside of the plastic bag with documentation. This is just a dust cover, so if you need to remove it to make your plug fit, you absolutely can. I have had my Surge Guard plugged into my RV 365 days a year for 7 years and I can tell you that water intrusion is not an issue, with or without the plug cover. Again, that cover is simply a dust cover while it is not in use.
Yes, the 34931 and 34951 models are compatible with the Surge Guard Bluetooth App which shows you the same information you can find on the LCD panel on the front of the unit.
