The SoftStart allows you to run your RV air conditioner(s) with minimal start-up power, even 2 units on a 30 Amp pedestal! SoftStart RV is designed to connect directly to the compressor motor and reduce the power surge that occurs on startup. SoftStartRV™ gradually increases this power until the compressor is running, creating a very smooth start that reduces the peak current by 50 to 70% or more. An RV rooftop 16000 BTU, 120-volt compressor can now start with under 20 amps of current. The SoftStart RV includes: * 1 SoftStart device * 1 installation kit
* Dimensions: 4.5” x 3” x 2.5” * Weight: 1.94 lbs * Warranty: 1 year (2 years when you register your product)
* Easy to install * Real-time phone support * Run two air conditioners on a 30 amp hookup * Run one air conditioner using only a small portable generator * Run one air conditioner on a 20 amp household hookup * Run one or two air conditioners using your onboard inverter system * Specially designed, engineered, and tested for all RVs * Reduces start-up noise * Reduces startup power demand by 70%. * Comes with TechnoRV Learning Series
Yes, but you must exercise some fairly strict power management practices since many ACs can consume 1700-1900W in hot weather. Also, the Honda EU2000i may not have enough power at or above 4000' altitude. We have many satisfied SoftStart customers using this Honda generator with all brands of rooftop air conditioners. SoftStart starts and runs these compressors even with the generator's ECO mode turned on.
Everything you need for installation is in the SoftStart kit, except for tools like wire crimpers and cutters.
Yes, you will need a SoftStart installed on any AC unit that you want to run on less power. If you have 3 ACs, you can choose to install a SoftStart on only 2 as long as you only use those 2 units when connected to 30A power.
If you are comfortable getting on your RV roof and working with electrical wires, you should be able to install the SoftStart without professional help. TechnoRV sends a Learning Series after purchase with links to wiring diagrams for all major AC models. If you need more assistance, SoftStart will set up a phone appointment with you to walk through the installation, and you can always call TechnoRV for more help as well.
