Which Garmin GPS is Right for You?
There are 7 Garmin RV GPS units to choose from! All of these units have Garmin’s world class navigation capabilities, but there are some other variations that make each a bit different. The navigation on all Garmin GPS units will allow you to enter your RVs height, weight, and how many propane tanks are onboard so that it can then route you on roads that are safe for your RV. Lets look at the different models.
Note: The Garmin RVcam 795 is the ONLY model with a built-in dash camera.

So how do you decide? Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Do I want the largest screen possible for my GPS? If yes, then get the Garmin RV 1090 or 1095 model which both have 10-inch screens.
- Do I have to have a built in dash cameras? If yes, then get the Garmin RVcam 795. You can also use a stand-alone Garmin Dash Cam with any of the GPS models.
- Do you want the economical choice? If yes, get the Garmin RV 780.
- Does your passenger want to use the GPS to enter destinations while in motion? All of the Garmin GPS models except the RV 780 have a great magnetic mount that makes it simple to remove the GPS from the mount. The GPS auto-aligns when replacing the unit on the mount making it super easy to remove and replace. The 780 can be removed, but it is not as simple to use in motion.
Check out the interview we had with Garmin below where we ask the most frequently asked questions we get about Garmin RV GPS:
What Garmin GPS do we use?
I have used the Garmin 890 since it was released, and it is by far our most popular unit. I personally like the bigger screen of the Garmin RV 890, and I like that I can view it in portrait or landscape mode.. When I am driving my RV, I am always taking quick glances at the GPS and I want that screen to be large enough to see the navigation features. Bear in mind that I am in a class A motorhome with a huge window so an 8-inch screen doesn't overtake the dash. I could even use the larger 10-inch screen without any issues.
Also, because my GPS is not mounted directly to my window and sits on my dash instead, the built-in dash camera does me no good; instead I use the Garmin Dash Cam 57. If you are attaching it to the window using the included suction mount say in a truck or a Class C. the built-in dash cam found in the Garmin RVcam 795 would work well.
Everyone's RV situation is different so think about what would work best for you. Whichever you choose, know you are getting a great unit! We have tested and used them all and are very happy with their performance.
